The Planet Project

2025 PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS:

We are the future of sustainable life on the planet!

This sculpture project and school outreach art program is an engaging, interactive learning project developed to inspire creativity and expand young people’s awareness of science, nature, environment, recycling, and material usage. Each year we explore a new theme through which students use their research to create a collaborative, often large-scale sculpture(s) in class, then bring out to install at the Festival.

the wild lives of trees | dwellers & pollinators

SCULPTURE CHALLENGE

This sculpture project invites students to explore Alabama’s native trees and the creatures that inhabit and pollinate them; how they live symbiotically sustaining each other and in turn, Alabama’s forests, urban green spaces, neighborhoods, backyards, and more.

Each class will choose an Alabama native tree to base their freestanding, large-scale sculpture on. It can be realistic or abstract, stationary or kinetic. It should include at least three wildlife inhabitants and/or pollinators within the tree sculpture. For the build-out, the class will utilize any choice of material(s), especially recyclables and natural materials. The included wildlife and pollinators can be 2D or 3D renditions and depictions, handmade or found, sculpted, painted, stenciled etc. into/onto the tree sculpture.
