Freshwater Land Trust® conserves and cares for environmentally significant land across
Central Alabama and connects communities to greenspaces throughout Jefferson County via the Red Rock Trail System®.
FLT has contributed to the protection of area waterways with over 5,000 acres of land conserved in the Black Warrior and Cahaba River watersheds. We manage restoration projects to benefit the habitat of endangered species, and work to reduce the issues of litter and invasive vegetation through community collaboration.
The Red Rock Trail System (RRTS) is a network of trails, parks, bike lanes, and sidewalks spanning Jefferson County, Alabama. FLT has already put 129 miles on the ground, with 19 more to come within the next 15 years; FLT is expanding non-motorized access to greenspaces with the Red Rock Action Plan, a 36-mile loop connecting Ruffner Mountain to Red mountain via Railroad Park. This plan aims to provide safe, comfortable, and equitable trails for all ages and abilities.
