My work is primarily collaged based paintings and drawings. I love to explore materials and techniques to create interesting and thought provoking pieces. I specifically enjoy creating a textured surface from found or discarded materials such as card board, old newspapers, and fabric. The majority of the materials are sourced from thrift stores, yard sales, hand me downs or found on the side of the road.
The background is usually multi-layered in it’s construction, made to look worn out or old, as if it has a story to tell. I tear, cut, bend, saturate, soak, dye or bleach the materials before adhering them to the canvas. I want the back ground of the piece to be just as interesting as the foreground. The foreground is usually a painted image of something from nature. Insects, birds, rainbow and flowers are some of my favorites. I really like the idea of up cycling materials and making them into something completely new.
