Karen Schmitt is an American painter who has been living in Alabama
for the past 16 years. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Karen
graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelors of Science
in Experimental Psychology. Following several years in Social Work,
Karen became involved in the creative industry, where she worked for a
mail-order fashion company. This provided an outlet for her creative
energies and ideas. The shift from social work to visual arts came easily
and naturally.
Following her retirement, she continues to freelance in that industry
providing design/illustration/graphic art: and picked up a paintbrush.
Karen paints in both semi-abstract and abstract styles, in oils, in
acrylics, mixed media and collage.
In exploring the multitude of ways to express beauty, emotion, realism
and abstraction, Karen continues her art studies at private studios and
colleges.
