Visual artist, Garland Farwell, was born in Los Angeles. He earned his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently resides in York, Alabama. Farwell spent most of his early career in New York, working primarily in theater, designing sets, props, puppets, and masks. He has collaborated with various playwrights, directors, companies and choreographers. His work has been featured at venues in North America, Europe, Africa, and The Caribbean.
Garland Farwell’s current practice is centered primarily in the studio, developing folk art paintings, sculptures, and assemblages. He also manages South17, a burgeoning rural arts cooperative and creative space he founded to help foster economic growth in west Alabama.
