Rachel Bates is a textile and fiber artist who has resided in Birmingham, Alabama since 1996. She inherited a love of needle arts and quilting from her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The influence of the Birmingham art community and local guilds led her to experiment with traditional and modern fiber and textile techniques that include hand dying, weaving, charcoal mark-making. Her primary emphasis is imagery and portraiture.
Mrs. Bates holds a degree in Early Elementary Education from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. She remains committed to a teaching tradition of workshops and demonstrations for children and adults. She has participated as an Artist Teacher and presenter at local quilting guilds. DizzyNeedle art is often displayed in art fairs and local exhibits.
