Bio
Cat Duncan is an artist from Birmingham, AL, whose work is concentrated in various methods of printmaking including relief printing, intaglio, and lithography. She received her BFA from UAB in 2016 and has participated in exhibitions and art markets throughout Alabama. Her work is heavily symbolic and explores ideas of feminism, anxiety, and identity. The shadowy guardian-like dogs that are the subjects of many of her pieces are a collective, figurative group she refers to as “The Bitches.” They serve as a constructed mythological representation of feminist strength and power, and act as an extended metaphor of her own mental landscape. They occupy a supernatural watchdog role as they narrate a personal journey that revolves around issues of anxiety, depersonalization, and fear particularly as they relate to feminine identity.
