Originally from Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, I grew up surrounded by talented, inspirational women who loved to sew and create handmade items. My mother, aunts, and grandmothers made everything from potholders and pillows to clothes and elaborate hand sewn quilts. This is where my love for sewing originated.
Over the years, my family and career took priority, so sewing had to take a backseat. When my children went off to college and I had more time at home due to the pandemic, I rediscovered my love for sewing and creating handmade items. I started Modiste and began making bags and accessories using a variety of materials such as cork, faux leather, vinyl, cotton, and canvas. I am inspired by nature and enjoy using floral prints and earthy tones. I love combining miscellaneous bits and pieces—an interesting fabric—maybe cork or vinyl remnants, a colorful cotton material, a zipper, some hardware, etc. and turning them into something both beautiful and useful.
