I worked in wood as a hobby for over 25 years, making furniture and gifts for family and friends. I realized that each piece of wood has its own personality and presence. I wanted to bring that personality out to the forefront. Frequently, people will use everyday functional items without regard to their appearance. I like to create functional art; items which bring some beauty through wood while providing a wanted service. This brings warmth to places often viewed as utilitarian and sterile. I have been working more frequently with spalted woods because of their uniqueness and beauty. That is what I try to bring with my wooden pepper mills, vases, bottle stoppers, various shakers, and pens.
